Effervescence Bubbling by the liberation of a gas (for example when acid is added to a carbonate solution).
End Point The point in which a titration results in a colour change and where the titre is recorded.
Equivalence Point When the correct (stoichiometric) amount has been added in a titration. This is not the same as the end point but if the titration is carried out properly and a suitable indicator is used the end point will be an accurate reflection of the equivalence point.
Eluate

The solvent that emerges from the column in a chromatographic separation.

The solvent used in a chromatographic separation.

Elute Literally means 'to wash' and it is the term used to describe the passage of solvent through the stationary phase in chromatography.

Ether

The trivial name for diethyl ether.

Ethyl Acetate The trivial name for ethyl ethanoate.
Extract (verb)

The action of removing a compound from a solution by shaking with an immiscible solvent.

Extract (noun) The separated immiscible liquid that has been used to extract a compound from a solution.
Extrapolation The process of constructing new data points beyond measured points, for example by extending a line of best fit beyond the plotted points.
