Partition The equilibrium that takes place when a compound dissolves in a pair of immiscible liquids.
Partition Coeficient The ratio of concentrations of a compound when it is partitioned between two immiscible liquids.
'Pig' A type of receiver adapter used in distillations which allows several flasks to be attached.
Precision

The closeness of repeated measurements (not to be confused with accuracy).

Primary Standard

A compound that is use to make up standard solutions (such as in volumetric analysis) which is;

1. Obtainable in a highly pure form.

2. Of a high molar mass to help the accurcy of weighing.

3. Should not be hygroscopic (see also).

4. Readily soluble in in an appropriate solvent.

5. Should react rapidly with the substance it is analysing in stiochiometric (see also) amounts.
